From Devore Shelter…Again

February 20, 2012 by Animal Resources

Monday I was requested to go to Devore and pull 5 Chihuahuas from death row, as they were to be killed that evening if not rescued. Well, to Devore I went and pulled the 5, 2 were to be transferred to Loma Linda Vet Hospital on Tuesday for spay-neuter. The other 3 I brought to L.L.V.H. because they were rescue only and I had to sign waivers for them because they were a bit nippy, according to the staff. When they were brought out the tan boy was so sweet and scared, but not bitey, that you had to wonder were these labels come from. The black and tan boy was very frightened and yes he was a bit nippy, but a towel over the head and a few soft words went a long way in putting him at ease. Now the third one they were a little leery of, a 40 lb terrier that they rolled out in a confinement cage because of his actions and mannerism. I coaxed him out of the cage and spent time petting him and just being nice and he warmed up to me enough to get him in and out of the kennel with no issues. Why they use the confinement cage when being nice works well is beyond me. Off to the vets we went on the first leg of a long journey up to Washington state and hopefully a much better life.
