Animal Transport

While we stopped documenting the stories of our transports in 2016, we continue to work directly with rescue organizations in getting animals out of high-kill shelters.

Very Blind, Very Old

March 27, 2014 by Animal Resources

Today I went way out in the desert and picked up this very blind, very old and very thin but very sweet dog from a shelter that was about to put him down. A rescue wanted him and I know in my heart they wanted him out of the unloving and impersonal shelter so that if his time is near, at least he may cross over with a caring person and the warmth of a hand nearby. Not the cold unforgiving place that he was pulled from. I have no idea as to why he was dropped off at the shelter by his so called family, I only hope that they never get another dog and repeat this again. As for Captain (his name) he is in a better place now and I know shortly he will be in a the best of all places soon. Now he can crossover in dignity and know for a short time he was loved.

Last Day, Last Call

March 24, 2014 by Animal Resources

Today I went to a shelter to pull this dog for a rescue who had an adopter waiting for him. Now remember this dog had been in the shelter for two weeks or so and no one took an interest in him. His last day before he met the needle, all of a sudden there were 3 rescues who wanted him. As I was already committed to the rescue I was pulling for, I politely asked the other rescues to contact my rescue and they could work it out. Remember it’s about the dog, not about the people. As he was going to a good home, I saw no reason to change anything and when I pulled him I made sure he went where he was intended to go. Off he went, riding in his truck and I hope his memories of what he has been through fade fast. I know he doesn’t realize how close he came to never going for a ride again and I won’t tell him either.
