Animal Transport

While we stopped documenting the stories of our transports in 2016, we continue to work directly with rescue organizations in getting animals out of high-kill shelters.

What A Fly-Away Looks Like

December 5, 2014 by Animal Resources

Today, at o-dark-thirty, I loaded up 20 dogs that were in boarding and off we went to the Van Nuys airport and the 10 planes that were waiting to load their precious cargo. As you can see from the pics, all are kenneled and ready to go when we arrive. I would like to say a very big thank you to the rescue kennel owners who stayed up all night getting everything ready to go. Once there and through check-in we found their plane and after many volunteers walked everyone for a final potty break, they were loaded and then they were airborne. So few realize the tremendous amount of effort to pull off 600 dogs and 10 planes going to 10 different cities with 10 or more rescues to be coordinated to meet and take them when they are back on the ground. It just shows what can be done when we all work together. And this all done by volunteers.

14 Months Locked Up

December 4, 2014 by Animal Resources

This little girl was at a shelter for a whooping 14 months. I am sure that is not a record, nor is it one that is sought after by any animal. Was she frightened? Yes. Was she handle-able? No. Was she very scared? Yes. She was in good shape physically, but she wanted nothing to do with anyone. I would say she was close to being semi-feral in the ways that she acted out. We got her loaded, and that went fairly easy. She just wanted anywhere but around us, and the kennel looked like the easy way out, so in she went. I unloaded her where she will stay until her ride later this week which will take her to a wonderful rescue that has had much luck with others coming from similar circumstances. With the right person working with her I know she will come around in no time. A big thank you to the shelter manager who passed on many chances to kill her, for keeping the faith that someone would come for her, and they did. Thank you for not killing her. It’s so easily done yet harder to say no.
