Animal Transport

While we stopped documenting the stories of our transports in 2016, we continue to work directly with rescue organizations in getting animals out of high-kill shelters.

This Is Eli

September 15, 2011 by Animal Resources

Eli is from the Camarillo shelter and was very shy and somewhat skittish on making first contact with someone he doesn’t know. After we spent a couple of hours, and when we had loaded him in the van, his look to me was just total heartbreak. I was his new friend and now again he was being abandoned. So sad. If I truly didn’t think this was the best for him, I would have kept him. I know the rescue he is going to and he will be very well taken care of with a lot of love and understanding. This is what we do in rescue, over and over. Find them, love them and let them go on to something better. It never gets any easier.

A Very Busy Day

September 9, 2011 by Animal Resources

The day started out very early going to go to Ventura Highway Luxury Boarding for Dogs to pick up 2 pitt bull pups I had placed there 2 weeks prior. I had to get them loaded and get on the road to make a 9:00 a.m. loading time at Van Nuys airport. The Wings of Angels were sending a flight to Oregon and these lucky little guys managed to be one of the few that were going to fly in style. We arrived with a few minute to spare and I helped load the aircraft with its valuable, but rather apprehensive cargo. I knew they were in good hands with the pilot who has flown this route many times and has transported hundreds of furry passengers.

I left there and had to make a appointment with Animal Control on pulling 8 more dogs that were going to boarding and rescue. I pulled and loaded back up and made the stops at Flying High Boarding and delivery at Last Green Mile Rescue. Everyone was very quiet and very apprehensive as to where they were going. Seven nervous chihuahuas are not to be trifled with, but all were glad to arrive at their destination safe and sound.

And still I had one more major pickup and delivery that day. Two pitt bulls that were being held at the shelter since July were finally being released, to Animal Resources, on the condition that they be taken out of county and never to return. I met the owner and we discussed the long term plan for these dogs and after I felt that he truly was going to follow through with his part, I agreed to pull them and transport them to where they would no longer be a problem for anyone. I didn’t take any pics of these guys, just take my word that they were full of energy and so glad to be out of Animal Control kennels. They were well behaved and as I watch the first interactions between the owner and the dogs I could see how much each missed the other. This story isn’t over yet, but hopefully it will be soon.
