A Long Journey For Alise - September 30, 2011
Alise was one of the dogs we had pulled a few weeks back and has been in foster with Sara in Ventura since then. We finally found a rescue in Oregon that would take her and get her adopted. So I picked this poor sweet girl up in Ventura at 9pm to begin her long ride to Oregon. Linda was going north to deliver her foster dog to the rescue and agreed to take Alise along also. Since there were only two dogs in the car they got to travel in style. I met Linda at Castic Junction at 10:30pm, as she wanted to travel at night so its cooler on the dogs across the central valley. And we all know how long, hot and boring that drive can be. Linda called and said the dogs traveled fine and arrived safely at their destination and everything went well. I know Alise will find her forever home there as she is so sweet and loving. Again, just a link in the chain to get these wonderful dogs to a loving home. Can’t wait to hear who the lucky adopter is for Alise.
Poor Marley - September 29, 2011
Months back Marley was scheduled for a transport to Canada, but being deemed aggressive in his behavior, he was pulled and another dog was substituted in his place. Marley stayed around the kennel for some weeks while a decision was made about what to do with him. Finally a dog trainer that said he could work with Marley was contracted to see if some of his issues could be corrected. After two months or so some progress was made, but not enough. So again Marley was transferred to a kennel that is going to re-evaluate him to determine what his long range plans can be. Marley is somewhat dog aggressive, not extreme, but can be a little hard to handle at times around other dogs. He also likes to be mouthy around your hands and arms and that usually means a dominate trait that needs to be corrected. We will have to wait and see how his evaluation comes out and what his long range prospects could be. We will keep our fingers crossed and wish for the best.

5 Pitties Rescued In One Afternoon - September 27, 2011
After I transported Barney I had to rush back to the shelter and load up again to transport these five big guys to the Simi holding facility that we use to stage prior to transporting them out of state. At least they are alive. The shelter is so full they aren’t taking anymore in right now. It's just never ending.

Meet Barney - September 27, 2011
I picked Barney up today from Mindy's (Ventura Highway Luxury Boarding for Dogs) where he was a favorite of everyone there. He is so cute and lovable that people couldn’t keep their hands from him. Our transport for Barney was to be a van going north to Canada, where Barney will finally find a home that he so deserves. He was such a good boy.

Sticking His Tongue Out - September 26, 2011
If I didn’t know better I would say that k-109 was sticking his tongue out as he was leaving the shelter for the last time. He was so happy to out of there. I pulled two today for transport to Calabasas Vet Hospital, because both had issues that needed further treatment before going on to a rescue or foster before adoption. I will transport both down to the San Diego area when they finish with their vet visits in about a week. The little white one (#100) wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to be disturbed. She just slept the whole way. I am sure she will bounce back in no time.
Three More On Their Way - September 21, 2011
All three of these guys came from outside the shelter. So that means that they have been safe for a while. One came from Ventura Highway Luxury Boarding for Dogs out on the Avenue in Ventura and the other two were the ones I transported to Westlake Village Animal Hospital last week. Their conditions had improved enough for their journey to begin, so it was off they went. They are always excited about getting in the cab of the big rig. It’s something so different for them. Glen says during the ride to Phoenix they are kind of mesmerized with being so high and looking down on everything else. Something they really don’t get used to. But they adapt. As they always do.

11 More Dogs Were Saved From The Shelter - September 20, 2011
Today was a busy day moving dogs around to rescues and boarding kennels, trying to keep one step ahead of the needle. I picked up 4 dogs we had at Flying High and delivered them to Last Green Mile Rescue. Then went to the shelter and pulled 11 more. Three went the Simi holding facility to await further transport next week. Four more went to Flying High Boarding to await a rescue next week, one went to Last Green Mile Rescue and three went to Ventura Highway Luxury Boarding for Dogs out on the Avenue in Ventura. They were all such sweet little guys. So hard to imagine they would have died by Friday if we don’t move them out. Just think of the ones we didn’t save. They were just like these guys. It never ends. Didn’t have time for pics but I will tomorrow. There is tomorrow, for some...
Another Run To Baldwin Park - September 19, 2011
I made another run to Baldwin Park to meet up with Glen so 3 more lucky pitties could get a chance at a new life in Tucson with Justin at Love-A-Bull Rescue. We decided to start transporting later in the evening because of the heat. That way the dogs and I don’t have to wait 3 hours for Glen to drive in from Phoenix. Seems to work fine. Traffic was a little heavier, but all in all it's a better deal for the dogs, and that’s what it is all about. I picked up Zoey at Bartons and he was so glad to see me. Zoey was the first pittie to climb all the way into Glen's truck, unaided. Quite a feat. He seemed right at home in the cab. You have to wonder if he had done this before.

Do I Look Upset? - September 18, 2011
This little chihuahua was rescued early last week and was being held for spay/neuter by the shelter, which they did on the 9th. And guess what? He was forgotten by everyone. Me, the rescue and the shelter. He was fixed, returned back to his kennel (#89) and just stayed there while others came and went, he just looked on wondering when his day would come. Well it was today. I received a call from the shelter wondering when I was going to pick him up. I did not remember pulling him and said what dog? Then it hit me. OMG we had forgotten him. I rushed over to the shelter and within 10 minutes he was in my car and heading to the rescue, he should have gone to a week ago. If you look closely at the picture you will see that he was not a happy camper spending an extra week waiting for me to show up. My apologies little guy, I promise it won’t happen again.

The Saga of Zoey - September 17, 2011
Today I pulled Zoey from the shelter and transported him to a kennel in Sun Valley where he will be safe until next week when I transport him to Baldwin Park and then it will be on to Tucson for him. At least he is safe at the moment. As long as they are in the shelter, they are not. If Zoey hadn’t met Diane on the streets of Ventura, I am sure his fate would have been sealed. Diane has done so much to help Zoey, and I like to think Zoey knows it. She has raised funds, visited him at the shelter, played with him there and generally been a guardian angel to Zoey. Thank you doesn’t seem enough, but it is all I have, so a very BIG THANK YOU, DIANE for all you have done. Zoey’s journey isn’t over yet, but at least we have started it.

This Is Eli - September 15, 2011
Eli is from the Camarillo shelter and was very shy and somewhat skittish on making first contact with someone he doesn’t know. After we spent a couple of hours, and when we had loaded him in the van, his look to me was just total heartbreak. I was his new friend and now again he was being abandoned. So sad. If I truly didn’t think this was the best for him, I would have kept him. I know the rescue he is going to and he will be very well taken care of with a lot of love and understanding. This is what we do in rescue, over and over. Find them, love them and let them go on to something better. It never gets any easier.

A Very Busy Day - September 9, 2011
The day started out very early going to go to Ventura Highway Luxury Boarding for Dogs to pick up 2 pitt bull pups I had placed there 2 weeks prior. I had to get them loaded and get on the road to make a 9:00 a.m. loading time at Van Nuys airport. The Wings of Angels were sending a flight to Oregon and these lucky little guys managed to be one of the few that were going to fly in style. We arrived with a few minute to spare and I helped load the aircraft with its valuable, but rather apprehensive cargo. I knew they were in good hands with the pilot who has flown this route many times and has transported hundreds of furry passengers.
I left there and had to make a appointment with Animal Control on pulling 8 more dogs that were going to boarding and rescue. I pulled and loaded back up and made the stops at Flying High Boarding and delivery at Last Green Mile Rescue. Everyone was very quiet and very apprehensive as to where they were going. Seven nervous chihuahuas are not to be trifled with, but all were glad to arrive at their destination safe and sound.
And still I had one more major pickup and delivery that day. Two pitt bulls that were being held at the shelter since July were finally being released, to Animal Resources, on the condition that they be taken out of county and never to return. I met the owner and we discussed the long term plan for these dogs and after I felt that he truly was going to follow through with his part, I agreed to pull them and transport them to where they would no longer be a problem for anyone. I didn’t take any pics of these guys, just take my word that they were full of energy and so glad to be out of Animal Control kennels. They were well behaved and as I watch the first interactions between the owner and the dogs I could see how much each missed the other. This story isn’t over yet, but hopefully it will be soon.

The Spay-Neuter Shuttle - September 8, 2011
Although very important, and I do it just about every Thursday, I pickup/dropoff dogs that are to be fixed that day at the Simi Valley low cost spay-neuter clinic. The guests for today have to be there at 8:00 a.m with a schedule pickup in the afternoon between 12:00-2:00 p.m. The staff there is the greatest and all my dogs have been fixed there. If more people would get their animals fixed, I wouldn’t be moving them all over the place, scrambling to find homes for them. Boy would I love to be put out of this business by the lack of need. I don’t see it in the cards for the near future, but maybe one day. All we can do is hope.

Who Strikes Terror In The People's Heart!!! - September 7, 2011
(Is This The Face Of T- Rex?)
I only had one dog to transport to Baldwin Park to meet up with Glen. It was 105 degrees there so I drove around and found a shady spot under some trees in a church parking lot. Nice and quiet and peaceful. For a while. Two of Baldwin Park's police cruisers pulled up and said the owner of the property objected to us being there as she didn’t want any pit bulls on her property. I explained that we were just sitting in the shade, trying to beat the heat and the dogs would not be let out to walk around and wouldn’t bother anyone. After I explained that I rescue and transport the dogs to find homes out of state, she calmed down a bit and the police handled it very well. And they were very nice and polite. I will say that she was terrified of poor shadow and there was no way I was going to talk her into giving him a chance. But all ended well with me sitting in the shade and t-rex in the back wondering what it was all about. Best he never knows.

And They Just Keep Coming…….. September 6, 2011
These are just 2 of 11 dogs that I transported to a rescue in Lamoor, located in the Central Valley about 4 hours north of Ventura County. Although we sent 11 dogs north, we only freed up 4 kennels at the shelter. With the numbers being turned in, we are but a finger in a dyke trying to hold back the flood. But if we didn’t save them, who would? Probably no one. They would be dead, never to go on to a full life, bringing joy and happiness to so many. Now at least these guys have a chance at a life. There are no guarantees, no promises, just a chance. that’s all we offer.

k-70 - September 2, 2011
I pulled k-70 from the shelter and transported him to Bellas Sanctuary in the valley that same day. He was a big boy and was all play. He was so happy to get out and just be free. He had no name, but I am sure that won’t last. And to think that he was on the kill list a few days prior and if I hadn’t got him, he would now be dead. So sad, so much life in him. I know we can’t save them all, but to this one dog , it was important to him that he was saved. One dog at a time is all we can do.

Two Little Brownies - September 2, 2011
These little guys were highly stressed when picked up at the Ventura County Animal Shelter. Staff mentioned they were prone to biting, but when I delivered them to Irma at Last Green Mile Rescue, they had settled down and were very loving. They acclimated really fast and were lap dogs in no time. They are in good hands with Irma and I am sure they will find a loving home, hope they can go together as they are quite bonded.

More Pitties On Their Way - September 1, 2011
Met up with Glen again in Baldwin Park to transfer 3 more wonderful pitties for him to transfer to Justin's Love-A-Bull Rescue in Tucson, AZ and then on to their new adoptive home. Glen had a blow out going across the desert from Phoenix and that caused us to wait an extra 2 hours for him. In total we spent almost 6 hours waiting in the heat. The dogs were well watered and had plenty of walks. Tried to let them rest, as they weren’t used to all the quiet with me versus all the noise in the shelter. They were just glad to be out and about. I know there were wondering what was next for them, believe me guys, it’s all good!
