We’ve Seen These Guys Before - November 28, 2011
Today I transported the three dogs to Baldwin park that I moved from the vet hospital and Camarillo shelter last week. They have been at our holding facility in Simi Valley since then. They were visited every day by a group of our local volunteers in Simi that went over to the shelter and exercised and played with them. You couldn’t ask for a better group of people just giving of themselves and their time. These are the unsung and unrecognized people who give something every day to our unwanted furry friends. To them and others like all I can say is thank you.

More Puppies - November 27, 2011, Part 2
While at the Devore shelter I also pulled a mama pittie and her 7 puppies from the shelter. She looked to be very young and this is maybe her first litter. They are only a week and a half old, too young to be moving around, but if there are to live they have to get out of the shelter now. An independent rescuer named P.J. will be fostering them until their old enough for adoption. They looked healthy at this point and I told them to call me if they need any advice on their care. I know that I left them in very capable and loving hands.

A Very Neglected Dobie - November 27, 2011, Part 1
On Sunday I went to the Devore shelter in San Bernadino County and picked up a young dobie that had been severely neglected by a previous owner. To say that he didn't act like your typical 7 month old dobie is an understatement. This poor boy was barely able to walk and showed no curiosity concerning his surroundings. And he did get car sick on the way to the rescue. This poor boy has been through too much. I delivered him to L.A Dobie Rescue and I know he is in good hands with Nina now. Maybe there is hope.

Eight Is Enough - November 26, 2011
For most people eight would be a good number, but for us in rescue there is always one more that we wished we could have gotten out. Today I pulled 3 pitties, 4 chihuahuas, 1 papillon, and one chi-pug little character that was kind of scraggly, but cute. The pitties went to the Simi holding facility that we use to hold dogs before transporting elsewhere. These guys are all sceduled for Monday's transport to Tucson via Phoenix with Glen. I transported the 5 little ones to Katilla Animal Hospital in Anaheim, from there they will be further transported to a rescue in Washington state. They will be travelling a while before finally settling down, but at least they have a chance at a better life at some point. For others, they were not as lucky. maybe tomorrow will be their day. We can only hope so.

One In, One Out - November 25, 2011
In rescue, sick dogs are more the norm than the unusual, it’s just the way things are. Today I pulled Buster from the Camarillo shelter and I took him to Westlake Village Animal Hospital, checked him in and waited for Gracie to be checked out. I brought her in 5-6 days ago and, as you can see, she is so much better. You will also notice it was a teary eyed departure for Gracie with some of the staff members. We all said our goodbyes and they all knew that on Monday Gracie would be on her way to a very good rescue in Tucson. That helps a little, but sometimes it’s just not enough. It hurts when you are a foster or other caregiver and you see your favorite leave, again its part of rescue. But it is so hard sometimes.

A Gizmo Update - November 23, 2011
Today Gizmo’s foster dad sent me an update on how Gizmo is adjusting to his new life. As you can see he is highly stressed and is coping. Just kidding. Gizmo always takes things as they come and this is no different. I wonder how many balls he has gone through, must be a lot. Thank you Ted for the glance into Gizmo’s hectic everyday schedule.

We Are In A Hurry - November 22, 2011
These were nothing but energy. In a hurry to leave the shelter, in a hurry to get in the kennel, in a hurry to go somewhere. Once I met up with Glen they didn’t want a pee break, they just wanted in his truck and go. It didn’t take much encouragement to get them in the big rig. They just about put themselves in. Of course, just like the army, hurry up and wait. Glen did have other things to do at the plant, like unload. When he has finished then they will be on their way. If he let them loose, I am sure they would have beaten his truck to Phoenix. Well, such is life in the fast lane.

Off To Eugene, OR - November 21, 2011
Today I transported four pitties from our holding facility in Simi to Top Dog in the valley to meet up with the truck going north to Oregon and Washington. I didn’t get any pics as I was rushed for time meeting the truck. To say we made it in time, yes, with seconds to spare. The important thing is they arrived and were loaded as planned. All were glad to be leaving the shelter and starting another chapter in their lives, which we all hope is better than the last.
Puppies!!!!!!!!!! - November 19, 2011
On Saturday I pulled a mommy and her 7 seven puppies from the Camarillo shelter and transported them to a private party in Ojai to be fostered and aid in adoptions when they are old enough. Right now they are 4 weeks and way to young. They are in very good hands and I have no doubt they will all be spoken for before 8 weeks. Mommy is now getting to the point of trying to push them away and it won’t be long before she will want away from them. We are planning on getting them all fixed at the same time, as the trip to Simi is a long one from Ojai. In the meantime they will just be puppies playing in the grass.

The Four From Devore - November 18, 2011
On Friday I had a transport for four pitties from the Loma Linda Vet Hospital (where they were spay-neutered) to Baldwin Park to meet up with Glen and then on to Pam's Second Chance Rescue. To say these guys were all still recuperating from their surgery on Wednesday is true, but they were in a hurry to go, somewhere. Didn’t much care where, they just wanted out of there. They are all settled in at Pam's now and doing fine. Capone already has a potential adopter. I knew he would, he was such a cute little pittie with his very short legs. So cute.

Meet Sammy - November 16, 2011
On Wednesday I made a trip all the way up to Tracy, CA to transfer poor Sammy to Tracy (yes, same name) of Chino Boxer Rescue. I had pulled Sammy earlier in the day from the North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. While he was at the shelter he became a favorite of the staff and they just had to get him out. He was so very frighten there and was not doing well. His owner had died suddenly and he was banished to the shelter by people who didn’t want him at all. He was so scared and nervous at all the changes going on in his life. But he was very friendly and just wanted to be with someone. Well, he is very lucky that Tracy has taken him in and I believe that she already has potential adopters waiting for him. I am sure that all will be falling into place for this guy and his future is assured. A long trip, but worth it.

Alumni Update - November 13, 2011
If you look at this boy you wouldn’t recognize him from his before photo on October 9. He was sent to Hope Haven Rescue in Oregon and was in pretty bad shape. Now, for 10 yrs old he sure looks like another dog, much younger dog. His sister is now only starting to get over some major medical conditions and is on the mend. It’s always so good to get updates on the ones we have saved. It’s what keeps us going. Thank you Marsha for all you are doing and have done for these and others at your rescue.

Saved And Off To The Vet - November 11, 2011
Meet Drake, k-99, from the Camarillo shelter. Another must-leave-now-pittie-or-he-will die. Seems lately every dog we are getting out is down to the wire. Do or die. It is a lot of pressure to do this. One mis-step, one person not doing their job, and we have lost another wonderful dog. But we keep doing it as there are no others lined up in the hall waiting to take our places. Meanwhile Drake is happily waiting at the Vet's to be examined for some issue and will be going to boarding for a few days until we line up his rescue. He is very sweet; kind of takes everything in stride and goes with the flow. Definitely very easy going. I often wonder the toll it takes on these guys, all the moving around and constantly meeting new people. But it is better than the alternative left behind.

Can You Tell Which Is Which? - November 10, 2011
Meet Sweetie and Harmony, to me they look a lot alike, both very sweet, and Sweetie is so full of energy and just wants to go and go. Harmony is a little more reserved but is still curious about most things. Please remember that both have been through a bought of kennel cough and Sweetie spent a lot of time at the Vet's office, but she is well now and ready to go. We pulled these guys about ten days ago and are now just getting their turn to transport to Tucson for their chance at an adoption. I transported them to Baldwin park and turned them over to Glen for the second leg of their journey and soon it will be over. So many miles traveled, so many to go.

The Spay-Neuter Shuttle - November 9, 2011
Today I transported two more from our holding facility to Valley Vet Spay-Neuter Clinic in Simi Valley. A good volunteer (Kim) picked them up at 4pm and brought them back to the holding area. I will pick one up on Thursday for transport to Phoenix and pick up two others elsewhere. But that’s another story and another day.
Are We Excited? - November 8, 2011
Maybe or maybe not, it’s hard to tell from the look on this pup's face. He was one of three that I pulled from the shelter, literally from the jaws of death. He and k-67 had no time left at all. It was now or never. Sometimes it’s that close. I pulled him by 2pm and he would have been dead at 3pm. I transported him to Baldwin park for transport to Phoenix, then on to Tucson and a better life. Sometimes it feels like we are running an underground railroad to save the dogs lives. But it’s one dog at a time (in this case 3).

La Reina Event - November 6, 2011
On Saturday Animal Resources was scheduled for participation in the annual event at La Reina School For Girls in Thousand Oaks. We have been preparing for this for two weeks, having to find just the right dogs that would act just right in a very fancy setting. We couldn’t have them barking and doing all the regular doggie stuff that dogs do at adoption events. They had to be mellow, allow themselves to be handled by a lot of people, and just keeping their cool. Well I picked them out and there was the poodle, a chihuahua, and a yorkie mix. These guys were just the best. All very well behaved, never barked. They were great being handled by so many people. They just kept giving kisses non-stop. They were so tired at the end, they were all sound asleep when Lisa, a foster for us, showed up to pick them up for the night. Oh, and by the way, they all got adopted to wonderful homes and I spent all day Sunday doing homes checks and filling out paperwork. I want to especially thank Emily for all her help and for being there on so short notice. And Lisa for fostering and keeping the puppies safe on Saturday night. A job well done to both of you!

A Very Big Dog - November 4, 2011
Akita Rescue contacted me about pulling this boy and his sister and bringing them out to Akita Rescue in Riverside. Well sis had to wait until she was fixed on Sunday, but the boy was ready to go, to where? We decided to place him in the Simi holding facility for the weekend until his sister was ready and finished with her medical. So I pulled both, placed the girl on the spay-neuter list for Sunday and transported this big boy to Simi to await transport on Monday. Now remember the dog weights maybe 110 lbs or so and he didn’t want to get in the kennel, and I mean didn’t want to get in the kennel. It took two staff members and myself to get him in there. we finally did, but I am not looking forward to Monday. He must have had a very bad experience at one time with kennels. Well I know he found out there was nothing to fear from my kennels, so maybe Monday won’t be as bad. We will see.

Rocky Wins Again - November 3, 2011
I pulled Rocky from the shelter today, his last day that they would keep him alive, there were to be no more reprieves. So off we went to boarding, just so we could have more time to network him amongst the rescues. I believe he will be going to Tucson next week, but we are not sure yet. At least he is alive. This can’t be said for the ones that were left behind today to die. Nothing we could do, there just isn’t enough homes or fosters for everyone. No matter how hard we all try. Rocky is so full of energy and life. All he wants is a human to look up to and trust. Those big eyes of his will get to you every time. At least now he has a chance.

Can I Find A Home Now? - November 1, 2011
Both of these little guys were pulled today to be transported to their foster (Bonnie) to await the big night at the upcoming fund raiser event where they will be the stars for the adoption event. Of course they will be going to the groomers first to get all prettied up and have fancy do dats put in their hair. They want to look their very best. But alas only one will be going to the event as the little Yorkie will be left behind because he may have a heart murmur and it was decided that due to the existing medical condition, maybe it was not the best time for an appearance at such a stressful event. Well since that was decided, he is now available for adoption if anyone might be interested. He only weighs 2 lbs and is so cute and just wants to be held.
