This Is Stella - February 10, 2012
Well on the second try I got her out of the Lancaster shelter; I loaded her up and away we went. When I approached her pen at the shelter she was so sad and didn't want to move, she just laid there. Once I went inside to open her pen and she saw the leash, she picked up a bit. Then when started walking away we went; for a 12 year old she walked fast. As you can see from the limited picture-taking, she was ready to leave. She didn't want to wait around one second longer than needed. Getting loaded was no problem and when we arrived at Animal Rescue Center in L.A. she came right out, met the staff, and was friendly to everyone. I dropped her off and told her I would be back in the morning for her ride up north and hopefully a chance at a better life than where she came from.

I Named Her Biscuit - February 9, 2012
I went to the Downey Shelter yesterday to pull a Pittie that I know has not seen much socialization in her short life (This was after driving all the way to Lancaster to pick up a Rottweiler just to be told 'sorry we need to do an evaluation, come back on Friday'). This Pittie was another case of a dog dumped in the backyard. So sad; she was so sweet and just wanted attention. She was very thin coming into the shelter, but it looks like she is gaining weight. I delivered her to Sandy's in Acton where I know she will get the attention she so badly wants. Then I believe she is heading up north to find a forever home. And I know she will.

We Are Doing The Rottie Collection - February 8, 2012
As another transport to Friends Of Rotts in the Sacramento area is scheduled for this Saturday, I have been going to different shelters pulling rotties for the transport on Saturday. Today I pulled Mango from the Camarillo shelter, then went to the Downey shelter and pulled a young female that had been an owner turn in for some unknown reason. She was so sweet, the staff really was in tears when she left. None of us will ever understand how people can turn in such sweet dogs. After loading, we departed for the Animal Rescue Center in L.A., this will be their temporary home for a few days. Tomorrow I will go to the Lancaster shelter to pull a 12 year old that was also an owner turn in. After a lifetime of being there for them, this is her reward. Gotta love those people, hope they sleep well.

Remember Sweet Cheeks? - February 7, 2012
Last week I transported her to the Calabasas Vet Clinic from the shelter with a bad case of kennel cough, click here for details. I picked her up today and she was doing great. Running and jumping everywhere, so happy to be out. We were soon on our way to Top Dog in the valley to meet a transport going north later that night. But as sometimes happens, things can go awry. I was told that the transport would not be at the meet up location until the following day. Well looks like its Plan B for Sweet cheeks. We contacted a foster in Thousand Oaks who agreed to host her for the night, so off we went to T.O. and I really believe Sweet Cheeks just loved it there. I last saw her when I was leaving and she was so happy just to be out playing she didn’t even notice I was leaving. That’s alright, getting her to where she is safe and happy is what’s important. She is scheduled for pick up on Wednesday by someone else as I will be transporting others to their intermediate stops getting ready for their transport. Never ends.

Now Who Wouldn't Adopt One Of These? - February 4, 2012
On Saturday I headed out to Indio, CA. Yes, that Indio, way out in the desert off the I-10, to pick up these little ones and bring them to an adoption event in Orange County. To say that it took a few moments to load, may be an understatement. Each little guy had to be looked at and fussed over thoroughly before loading, and yes, there were a few tears shed by the foster mom Bonnie that kept getting in the way. Well we finally got them all bedded down for there first ride in a van and we made sure each was as comfy as possible. Did they know what was really going on? Probably not, but they enjoyed the attention. They all were very quiet, some kept looking out the back windows at the passing cars and I would have loved to know what was going on in their little minds. They seemed so full of wonder and awe at it all. Must be nice to start out with everything being so wonderful in there world. If we could only keep it that way.

On Their Way To A New Beginning - February 3, 2012
For those of you that may remember Gizmo - from a month ago when I transported him from the shelter, where he had been turned in because of fighting with another dog, click here for details - he has been with Sandy out in Acton and has done very well there. He is now heading to Phoenix and we all hope a better life. He does deserve it. We all wish him well. I also picked up Picasso in San Bernardino, at a home that had taken him in from the streets. He had been badly beaten and left for dead by the side of the road. A nice couple took him in and all is better now. I don’t know if he even remembers it; to see him today you would never know it. Let’s see know what the future holds for them. It has to be better than the past.
