Remember Chico And Gracie?
If you remember, they were transported to Phoenix and then on to Adopt A Bull in Tucson to find their furever home - read more about Chico here. and more about Gracie here. Well they did get adopted and, as you can see, they have settled right in. For all who work so hard to save them and get them a chance at a better life, this picture makes it all so worthwhile. Thank you Justin for sending this photo. It means a lot to some.

What We Like To Hear
"Cody is doing fantastic however we did change his name. Hope you don't mind too much. We now call him Dexter. He is such a great dog and we are so blessed to have him. The kids love him and he is great with them. He goes off leash all the time and goes on nice walks and meets loads of other dogs. I think he is really happy in his new home. We couldn't have asked for a better dog!"
Just wish we had more adopters and more homes like this for all those still waiting or whose wait was cut short by the shelters.

Update on Maddie - Christmas 2011
Maddie was the little poodle that we adopted out at the La Reina school event back in early November (read the first update from her Mom below). Her mom, Darlene, sent me some updated photos and described how well she is doing and how everyone loves her so much. Maddie was very skinny and not well groomed when I first met her at the shelter. But I knew she potential to be a real family dog. And I guess I was right. Hope you had a Merry Christmas Maddie, and I am sure it was the best you ever had. Thank you Darlene for the updates.

Update on Maddie - November 2011
"Just wanted to let you know that Maddie is doing very well and has my husband wrapped around her little paw.
She is on antibiotics for her cold, and the sneezing is decreasing. Her energy level is coming up and she is very sweet and personable. Loves everyone, including the cat, and holds her own with "Red"...who is adapting. In the attached photo they are sitting on the couch together, and Red is not growling!
We are totally in love with her and wanted to say thanks for all you do."

Riley & His New Family
"I came across your page and I believe you are responsible for my Riley finding his way home. This is what I know:
Maripat Davis rescued Marley (now Riley) from the Camarillo Shelter around March 2010 and boarded him for a couple months, I believe he was then flown by Pilots n Paws to Save the Pets in Eugene, OR. My daughter found him on Petfinder and we made the 5 hour trip down with our two dogs to OR from WA to meet him.
We are so thankful to all the people that work so hard for no other reason than to give many dogs a chance at life. We adore our Riley and know it was a long road to find us and he was meant to be a part of our family. He was so very lucky good people were there to step in and change his fate, bringing him from CA to OR to finally settle in WA. Keep doing the amazing work you all do.
This Southern Cali boy had to get used to being a Pacific Northwest Resident but after awhile adjusted to the rain and ended up loving to play in the snow. He loves people and is great with every dog he meets. We help out our local rescue with fostering and walking dogs, Riley is the one who goes with us to test out dogs because he is so reliable with his reactions. I have included some pictures of the family and one with Riley playing very gently with a sick foster puppy we had.
Thanks so much for what you do. Riley (Marley) is the white one :)"

Winnie & Her New Family
Winnie was rescued from the Ventura County Animal Shelter, then transported to Baldwin Park September 1st to get a ride in Glen's big rig to Justin's Love-A-Bull Rescue in Tucson, AZ. Here she is meeting her new family and I'm not sure who looks happier. Thank you to everyone who helped bring them together!

Oliver: A long way from the Mojave Desert and Cindy Bemis
"I, as many of you who gave of your time and energy, will never forget the horrific conditions we faced at the Cynthia Trapani and Cindy Bemis property. I will never forget the visual or the smell. Many days we were catching and removing animals in triple digit heat. It wasn't unusual to find a new litter of puppies waiting for us. It was back breaking and spirit breaking, as well, to see the conditions those poor babies were existing in. Occasionally I get reports from the rescues and adopters who courageously gave these animals a second chance at the good life. One of the beautiful shepherds lives in the lap of luxury in San Diego, showered by love from her adoring family. Hollywood came calling for a Dalmatian girl who tours with Sea World 101 Dalmations show! A senior shep mix we found nearly dead in a trailer on the property also got a fantastic home thanks to the Heigl Hounds for Hope. Yesterday, I came in contact with a woman who had adopted one of the terriers who I remember vividly. This dog's spirit was broken and their was very little life in his eyes. Here are before and after pictures. I cried when I saw the after photo. Thank you Pet Adoption Fund for finding a wonderful home for this boy!!! You are my heroes. As were all the rescues who stepped up to the plate. Without them these animals had no chance." Best, Rene |
