Animal Rescue Rig
It's Been A Long Time Coming - November 2011
I decided to go ahead and purchase a vehicle that I was confident would do all that is asked. And I believe that the Ford Transit Connect is it. At the top of the list was fuel economy as we drive many miles each day transporting dogs from many different shelters. Also high on the list was interior space. I have been receiving more and more requests to transport more dogs from shelters than the older suv could carry. This unit will accommodate 6-7 large breeds or up to 15 smaller breeds depending on kennel configuration. I will need to install, at a later date, an auxiliary a/c unit as I am concerned that with a full complement of fur-passengers, going across the Central Valley or desert areas or even sitting in heavy traffic in L.A., it could get hotter in the vehicle than I would like. Heat causes stress and these dogs have had too much of that in their lives, no need to unduly add to it. Also at times I transport sick or badly injured dogs and we certainly need to keep them as comfortable as possible until we get them to a vet hospital. All in all this is a unit that is sorely needed by the rescue community to be able to move dogs from anyplace as comfortably, quickly and safely as possible.
As you can see from the photos, it is dedicated to all the unwanted animals that are amongst us and its sole purpose is to serve the rescue community in transporting them to better places, wherever that may be.

Rescue Rig Status Update
Revised November 17, 2010
- P.A.P.A. (www.vcpapa.org & www.papa-alliance.org) and whoever else is interested, will assist Animal Resources Inc. in its fund raising efforts to raise money to purchase a rescue rig for approx. $10,000.00 with any excess funds used to support transport programs assisting Camarillo shelter dogs and cats under a P.A.P.A. "umbrella".
- The rig will be owned and operated by Animal Rescources, Inc. and will be available to available for scheduling to any 501 who needs to conduct a transport. Organizations will be able to make independant arrangements with Animal Resources for use of the rig. Fees will be based solely on the distance and number of animals being transported. The health of the dogs is the responsibility of the shipping rescue. If the receiving rescue is not satisfied with the health of the dogs Animal Resources will contact the shipper and bring them back if needed. Certificates will be required for all animals being transported to other states.
- Any funds donated to Animal Resources for the Rescue Rig Project in excess of $10,000 will be paid to another 501 (to be determined) to be held in a "PAPA Purse" to be used solely for transport of Camarillo dogs and cats to new safe destinations or to and from spay/neuter or adoption events arranged in cooperation/conjunction with P.A.P.A., like the current "purse" is being utilized.
- The Rescue Rig will be made available for use by any 501, depending on availability. It will also be an option for an organization to reserve the Rig on a particular day each week.
